Description

No. 11 Small Street is an attached warehouse that has been converted into offices. It dates from the mid-18th century, with a 19th-century shop front. The building is constructed of brick with limestone dressings, render, and features a hipped roof covered in pantiles. It has a double-depth plan and is designed in a late Georgian style, standing four storeys tall with a two-window range.

The building occupies a corner site and includes giant pilaster strips that frame a splayed one-window corner. This is accented by a plat band, a first-floor sill band, a cornice, and a parapet. The right-hand return has three windows and is rendered. The early to mid-19th-century shop front features pilasters supporting a fascia and cornice, with a left-hand six-panel door and a plate-glass window. There is also a segmental-arched carriage archway with a weathered head key leading to a passage. A 19th-century doorway in the corner is flanked by timber pilasters and topped with a cornice.

The windows have segmental heads with five stepped voussoirs and horned 8/8-pane sashes, while the third floor has 4/4-pane windows. The return section of the building features a clinker plinth. Although the interior was not inspected, it is reported to contain a medieval vaulted basement.
