Description
Old Bell Cottage is a house dating from the late 18th century. It is built of stucco over Pennant rubble, featuring vertically hung clay tiles on the front and a steeply pitched pantile roof. The house has a double depth plan, is two storeys high with an attic, and consists of three bays.
On the ground floor, there is a four-panel door with an overlight located at the left end, sheltered by a flat canopy supported by scrolled brackets. To the right of the door, there are two flush 6/6 sash windows with architraves. The first floor has three sash windows, and there are two dormers in the attic with casement windows. The house has two brick chimneys: one at the right gable end and one along the ridge.
Although the interior was not inspected in 2006, Old Bell Cottage is recognized as a fine example of late 18th-century architecture. It holds significant group value with other listed buildings nearby, including the adjacent 18th-century house known as Rockfold, and it contributes positively to the character of Bell Hill.
