Description

This is a terrace of four houses, now three, built around 1840. The houses are located on Cotham Hill, Bristol. They are constructed of stucco with limestone dressings, featuring party wall stacks and a slate mansard roof on numbers 2 and 3; number 4 does not have this roof feature. The houses follow a double-depth plan, with two storeys and a basement. Each house originally had a three-window front, and numbers 2 and 3 have an attic. The terrace was originally designed as a cohesive unit, with numbers 2 and 3 forming the central section, articulated by pilasters and ashlar bands above the basement, a ground-floor plat band, a cornice, and a parapet. The ground floor is slightly raised. Central, ashlar porches have pilasters, cornices, blocking courses, and steps leading to half-glazed doors. The windows are 8/8-pane sashes, with the outer windows set within shallow, full-height recessed bays. Numbers 2 and 3 have two dormers with 8/8-pane sashes. An inscription reading "PITVILLE PLACE" is carved into the left-hand end of the plat band. The interior features central stair halls with dogleg stairs incorporating stick balusters, some stone fire surrounds and shutters.
