Description

The former pattern-maker's shop and stores, built around 1885, is located in Bristol's Floating Harbour area. This structure features an L-shaped plan with single-depth sheds made of brick and rubble, topped with slate hipped roofs. The layout follows the line of Avon Crescent and includes taller open sheds at the southeast end.

The single-storey brick pattern-maker's sheds have curved ends facing each other, connected by a wall. The northern shed has two sets of sliding doors and a segmental-arched window between them, while the southern shed includes an end doorway, three side doors, and two left-hand windows. The open-sided shed is supported by four cast-iron columns with rounded bases, holding up a timber beam and a king post roof. Additionally, there is a taller open-ended timber store with brick and rubble walls and a steel-truss roof, which projects forward on heavy timber posts.

Inside, the brick sheds feature cast-iron roof supports, while the other structures are open and used for storage. Historically, this building was constructed on land reclaimed behind Jessop's dam after the 1840s and is named after Brunel's Under Fall culvert, which was used for silt removal into the New Cut. It is noted for preserving the essential character of a late-Victorian docks area.
