Description
A terrace of nineteen houses dating from around 1830, located on Avon Crescent, Floating Harbour, Bristol. The houses are built of stucco with limestone dressings, with Nos 17 to 22 being limestone ashlar. They are arranged in pairs, with party wall stacks, and originally had pantile hipped roofs to Nos 6 to 14, and a concrete tile mansard to the remainder. The houses are double-depth plan, and each is two storeys high with an attic, arranged as a single-window range. The facades are articulated by pilaster strips rising to a first-floor cornice and a coped attic parapet. The right-hand doorways have raised surrounds, rectangular overlights, and six-panel doors. The windows are double-hung sashes with horns, containing two panes of glass. Nos 6 to 14 have mansards with single dormers, while the remaining houses have attic storeys with double-pile roofs. The interiors remain unexamined. Attached front garden walls with capped piers complete the group. Numbers 9 to 25 are numbered 98 onwards by plates on the doors, a detail indicating ownership by the Bristol Docks Committee. These houses represent a significant example of early 19th century artisan housing in Bristol.
