Description
The patent slip and quay walls, located in Bristol, were constructed in the mid-19th century and restored in 1888. They are made of granite and Pennant rubble. The slip has a 1 in 14 incline and features rails and a timber cradle on wheels, which is operated by an electric winch. The quay walls extend approximately 50 meters along the front of the Underfall Yard. Historically, these structures were built on land reclaimed behind Jessop's 1809 Overfall Dam and were originally part of the circa 1850 Nova Scotia Yard, which was purchased by the Docks Committee in 1880. The slip is capable of raising a load of 250 tons.
