Description
Westmoreland Farmhouse is a farmhouse, now a house, that dates from the 18th century and was extended in the mid-19th century. It is constructed from Lias rubble and squared coursed Lias, with Pennant lintels, brick end stacks, and a pantile roof. The building features a 3-window 18th-century block that is two storeys high, alongside a 4-window mid-19th-century block that is also two storeys high. The plain 18th-century section has 19th-century casement windows and a central doorway. The 19th-century section has overhanging eaves at the front and end gables. The windows have flat lintels with label moulds above Tudor-arched casements, featuring three lights in the centre and four lights on either side. A 20th-century doorway has been inserted into the left-hand window. The interiors have not been inspected. Historically, the farmhouse is named for Mary, Countess of Westmoreland, who granted the land to Sir Francis Fane in 1639. The 19th-century range is designed similarly to the farmhouse at Brentry Farm on Charlton Road, which is not included in this listing.
