Description
Numbers 16 to 21, a terrace of six houses, was built around 1830 by William Armstrong. The houses are constructed of stucco with limestone dressings, and have a hidden roof. They are in a late Georgian style, each house being three storeys high with a two-window facade. The facades are articulated by pilasters rising to a cornice and parapet; the three houses on the left have banded rustication to the ground floor. The doorways are semicircular-arched, featuring consoles supporting moulded canopies, two-panel doors, and tear-drop fanlights. The windows are sash windows, with 6/6 panes on the first floor, and smaller 6-pane sashes on the second floor, set within semicircular-arched recesses. Internally, the halls feature semicircular arches and cornices with open brackets, with dogleg staircases at the rear, incorporating slender turned balusters and turned newels. Other interior features include foliate cornices and ceiling roses, six-panel doors and three-panel shutters. The property also includes attached spear-headed area railings.
