Description
Number 54 is an attached house located in Queen Square, Bristol, dating from the early 18th century. It features a stucco exterior over brick, with gable stacks and a pantile roof, and follows a double-depth plan in the early Georgian style. The building has three storeys and an attic, with a three-window range. The left-hand doorway is adorned with a bracketed canopy, a rectangular fanlight, and a four-panel door. The middle first-floor windows have pedimented lintels with wreaths, and there are rectangular 6/6-pane sash windows in exposed frames, along with two 20th-century dormers. The interior has not been inspected. The house is complemented by attached spear-headed wrought-iron front area railings and piers. Queen Square was constructed between 1701 and 1727 with varied width leases and similar designs. Number 54 survived the destruction of much of the west side during the 1831 Reform Bill riots, although it has added lintels that resemble the 1833 replacements.
