Description
Number 48 is an attached house located in Queen Square, Bristol, built around 1833. The building features a combination of limestone ashlar and render, with party wall stacks and a roof that is not visible. It has a double-depth plan and stands three storeys high, with an attic and basement, presenting a three-window range. The front facade is nearly symmetrical, showcasing panelled pilasters on a banded ground floor, with pilasters above connected by a frieze, cornice, and parapet. The doorway, positioned slightly to the right of center, is framed by fluted pilasters leading to an entablature and cornice, and includes a rectangular fanlight with a lantern above a six-panel door. The ground-floor windows are set in recessed surrounds with 8/8-pane sashes, while the upper floors feature 6/6-pane sashes, with a central pediment lintel adorned with a wreath on the first floor. Inside, there is a central dogleg stair with stick balusters, a curtail, and six-panel doors. The property also includes attached front area railings with palmette finials and piers. Queen Square itself was constructed between 1701 and 1727, and much of the western side was rebuilt following the Reform Bill riots of 1831.
