Description
The Gatehouse and attached rubble wall is a 17th-century structure located on Royal Fort Road in Bristol. It is built from red Pennant rubble, featuring brick and limestone dressings. The gatehouse is a single-storey building with a one-window range. It has an elliptical-arched gateway with limestone quoins and two-leaf wooden gates. Above the gateway, there is a 20th-century mullion window and a parapet. The rear of the gatehouse features a brick arch. The attached rubble wall extends approximately 6 meters from the southeast corner and includes rusticated ashlar piers. This gatehouse was one of the entrances to the Civil War fort that once stood on the site of Royal Fort House. The interior has not been inspected.
