Description

Tuckton Public Library is a converted Edwardian villa known as Broom Close, built in 1908. The exterior features pebbledash with large pebbles on a random Purbeck stone plinth. It has hipped tiled roofs with a splayed outline and tall chimneys of Lutyens type, characterized by pairs of diagonally set stacks made of thin red bricks on high bases. The porch is located in the projecting two-storey center of the asymmetrical facade, featuring a segmental hood over a deeply splayed stone-faced opening with a four-centred inner arch. The windows are casement style with white timber mullions, and there are asymmetrical canted bay windows on the ground floor of the sides. The garden side is almost symmetrical, showcasing two two-storey canted bays. The interior has been modernized.
