Description

49 Wick Lane is an 18th-century cottage. The former rear addition, 49A Wick Lane, built between 1913 and 1914, is not included in the listing.

The cottage is constructed of rendered cob and red brick, topped with a thatched roof that is half-hipped at the north end and gabled at the south. It has a rectangular footprint with a small addition at the north end.

Facing west onto Wick Lane, the two-storey cottage has three bays and a symmetrical principal elevation. On each floor, there are two timber casement windows with two lights, flanking a former glazed porch that now serves as a bay window. The south gable wall is made of brick, featuring raised coping and kneelers at the gable apex. A chimneystack shown in historic photographs is no longer present. The north end is half-hipped, with the upper half below the hip being half-timbered, displaying whitewashed brick infill between the thin horizontal and vertical timbers.
