Description
No 23 (St Cross) is a picturesque mansion located on Bodorgan Road, built in 1883 as indicated on the foundation stone. The entrance is situated at the short west end, featuring a moulded brick arch beneath a wooden canopy supported by brackets, which is part of a projecting hipped-roofed gable. This gable includes a large dormer that is corbelled out, adorned with decorated plaster projections and incised plaster coving along the dormer and eaves.
At the southwest corner, there is a polygonal bay with an open loggia on the second floor, featuring bulgy Gothic balusters and topped with a spire. The long south front faces the garden and includes a canted bay with a second-floor loggia beneath a half-timbered gable that has a foliage frieze. This is followed by a loggia leading to the garden entrance and another canted bay on the ground floor, with a balcony above on the first floor, and yet another canted bay under a half-timbered gable.
The east and north sides contain service rooms, including one corbelled oriel with an incised coved cornice. The roofs are tiled with ornamental ridges, and the chimneystacks feature vertical ribs, projecting cornices, and some original pots.
