Description
Canford Cottage is a cottage dating from the late 17th century or early 18th century, which was refronted in the early to mid-19th century. The building is constructed of cob with a front made of red brick in Flemish bond, which has been patched and raised in paler brick. The right side is faced with similar brick, while the rest of the cottage is rendered. It features a Welsh slate roof with a galvanised iron ridge and a brick ridge stack.
The cottage has a 3-unit lobby-entry plan and is two stories high with a three-window range. There is a plank door located to the left of the centre, which has a cambered arched head and is set within a 19th-century gabled brick porch that has a slate roof and a thin timber lintel above the doorway. The windows on both the ground and first floors are two-light casements with cambered arched heads. Wrought-iron crosses are positioned to the left and right of the centre for tie ends.
Inside, the cottage features chamfered spine beams. The main room includes an open fireplace with a bressumer and a plank door leading to a winder stair.
