Description

The Cedars is a 18th-century double span house that has been altered in the 19th century and later. The exterior is rendered with coped gabled ends featuring kneelers, a slate roof, and end chimneys. The building stands 2½ storeys high and includes two dormers with low pediments and three windows. The first floor features an earlier 19th-century bow window with a cornice and glazing bars. A stone balustrade runs across the first floor, supported by Tuscan pillars that form a portico at the ground floor. There are bays on the south side and a central door, with ground floor windows primarily being casements. A notable cast iron verandah is located on the south side.

Inside, the house has moulded cornices and a deep frieze with figures in low relief in the hall and the southwestern ground floor room. There is an archway leading from the hall to the southwestern room, and a simple cast iron staircase with ramped handrails and plain balusters.

The Cedars, along with No 21, forms a group with the farmhouse and granary at Burton Farm, with No 21 and the farmhouse being of local interest.
