Description
No. 2 Market Close is a former house, now an office, dating from the late 18th to early 19th century. The building is constructed of brick with stucco and gauged brick dressings, featuring gable stacks and a slate roof. It has a double-depth plan and stands three storeys tall with a basement, presenting a three-window range. There are cill bands at the ground and first floors, along with a parapet. The left-hand doorway has steps leading up to a timber portico supported by Doric columns, which holds a flat canopy, a rectangular fanlight, and a six-panel door with a rectangular overlight. The ground floor features semicircular-arched windows set in matching recesses, with 6/6-pane sashes, while the basement has horned 3/3-pane sashes. At the rear, there is a full-height S bow with tripartite windows, including a central 6/6-pane sash and flanking 4/4-pane sashes, positioned lower on the second floor. The north side has 6/6-pane sashes, and there is a central mid-19th century half-glazed door with margin bars and a bracketed canopy. A panel on the building is inscribed "PT 1749." The interior has been noted as having been completely altered.
