Description
The stables, coach house, and wall enclosing the stable yard, located 100 meters south of Hinton Priory, date from the early to mid-19th century but include parts of medieval stonework. The structure is built of rubble with freestone dressings and features a 20th-century tiled roof with coped raised verges. It stands two stories high.
On the west elevation, there is a blocked wide entrance with a segmental head and a mix of lancet and cusped windows. The north elevation showcases three-light stepped lancet windows set in chamfered surrounds and topped with hoodmoulds. The east elevation has a segmental-headed coach entry on the right and two 20th-century garage doors on the left, along with two single-light arched windows on the first floor.
The walls of the stable yard extend south towards the Refectory, wrapping around the north end of the coach house and returning to the south on the east side of the yard to connect with the southeast corner of the Refectory. These walls are approximately 3 meters high and constructed of rubble with freestone coping and dressings. The north side features two buttresses with offsets and two plain lancet windows, along with a four-centre headed doorway to the left of the east buttress. The east side includes six plain and thin lancets, one wider lancet, and buttresses with offsets at the south end. There is a central archway under a gabled top with pinnacles, flanked by angled buttresses. Inside the yard, adjacent to the southeast corner of the wall, is a lean-to shed with an ashlar front and two four-centre headed doorways.
