Description
Brougham Place Nos. 3-6 is a group of early to mid-19th century houses, altered in the late 19th century. The buildings are constructed of limestone ashlar, with some areas painted. Nos. 3 and 6 are double-depth cottages, with roof visibility limited from the street. Nos. 6 and 7 have been combined to form the Rose and Crown public house.
The front elevation features two storeys and two windows on the ground floor, with one window above on each of the houses. The ground floors of Nos. 3-5 have paired plate glass sash windows and a plain door with a small rectangular light above. No. 4 previously had a shop window until around 1970. No. 6 features a bar frontage with doors at each end, a six-light window to the left, and a four-light window to the right, all beneath a continuous fascia supported by console brackets. The upper floor has six/six sash windows in the first four bays, and an eight/eight sash window at the right-hand end. There is a cornice, set lower in bays three and four, and a parapet above.
The return elevation to Dafford Street is painted on the ground floor and features a part-glazed four-panel door and a six/six sash window. Above is a recessed blind panel and an eight/eight sash window. The rear elevation is not visible.
Internally, the buildings have been opened out, with a tiled fireplace surround in the rear room and radiators positioned around the bar area.
