Description

Quarry Cottage is a detached house dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of limestone ashlar or dressed stone, with pantile or concrete tile roofs. The main part of the house runs east to west, with a gabled end facing the road. To the north is a two-storey gabled range, and a smaller original stable. The east front has a varied pattern of windows, mostly replacement sash windows, with one small paired glazing-bar sash on the ground floor to the left. A cheeked porch is centrally positioned. Coped gables are present, with a large square ashlar stack on each. The west front has two widely spaced plain sashes at first floor level above two windows with margin panes, and a central panelled door with a transom light. A lower-roofed wing is located at the front of the property, with a door, and a wider rear wing which includes a steel casement window. The interior has not been inspected. Formerly known as Villa Rose, Quarry Cottage is believed to have been the residence of the quarry manager, and was larger and more substantial than the nearby cottages, originally set within extensive private grounds.
