Description

The gatepiers to Royal Victoria Park are made of limestone ashlar and feature lower supporters on either side. Each pier has a plinth, three bands of rustication, and a frieze. The supporters are hipped to the main pier, which rises and includes inset polished granite panels on the front and back. A heavy modillion cornice is adorned with carved heraldic animals, specifically a lion and a bear, each supporting a shield and facing each other across the gateway.
