Description
The boundary walls, railings, and piers with urns for No. 88 date back to around 1760 and were restored in the late 20th century. They are constructed from ashlar stone and feature cast and wrought iron elements. Opposite the entrance to the hotel, there are tall plain ashlar piers with moulded bases and cappings that support large urns with gadrooned lower halves; however, no gates remain. On each side, there is a length of ashlar wall topped with a horizontal rounded coping that steps down to pavement level, carrying iron railings that alternate between hooped and straight designs. At the left end, a plain ashlar wall returns at a flat angle to the frontage, with flush piers at each end, while on the right, the railings meet the pier of No. 86.
