Description
This is a group of three cottages built in the mid-19th century, with alterations made in the 20th century. The cottages are located on Oxford Place, Combe Down/Williamstowe, and are attached to the rear of Manning Works. Numbers 1 and 3 are back-to-back, while number 2 is positioned at the southern end and is attached to the right.
The cottages are constructed of coursed rubble, with some ashlar detailing, and have double Roman or pantile roofs. Number 1 has two storeys and one window on the front, with a four-pane sash window and a small oculus above a six-panel door. Number 2, also two storeys, has two windows and a double-gabled front, with four-pane sash windows on each level, and a small, flat-roofed extension to the rear. Number 3, facing west, is ashlar-faced with a pantile roof, and has four-pane sash windows and a central door sheltered by a lead tent hood. The cottages have two gable stacks.
The interior has not been inspected. The group represents the artisan character of the area and its connection to the local quarrying industry.
