Description
Tilley Manor Farmhouse is a farmhouse dated 1659, originally built as a three-storey structure with at least one wing that has since been demolished. It is constructed of squared and coursed sandstone with freestone dressings and quoins, topped with slate roofs, and exhibits an Artisan Mannerist style. The south front is two storeys high and has five bays. All windows are two-light mullions featuring shouldered and eared moulded architraves, with those on the ground floor adorned with upswept broken swan neck pediments that rise to segmental caps, each containing cartouches with armorial shields. The windows throughout have two-pane casements.
The central doorway is framed by a shouldered and eared architrave, enclosed by pilaster strips with Ionic capitals positioned just above the bases, and features a pulvinated frieze with a projecting cornice. The door itself is a compartmented studded plank and batten design with four rectangular lights and panelled reveals. Above the doorway is a blocked opening that has a similar architrave and an inset coat of arms. The farmhouse has a moulded plinth course and a triple span roof with a central brick stack.
Inside, the ground floor right-hand room showcases a 1659 strapwork overmantel, along with a griffin and arabesque cornice frieze. An oak staircase features a strapwork balustrade, pendants, and ball finials. The first-floor right-hand room is paneled.
