Description

Coley Court is a house, originally two dwellings, dating back to the early 17th century. It underwent alterations in the late 17th and early 18th centuries, with further additions in the 19th and 20th centuries to the rear. The house is constructed of colourwashed rubble, with wooden lintels. The south wing has a slate roof, while the north wing has plain tiles, with some slates visible at the rear. Dressed stone defines the ridge.

The house has two storeys and two windows in each wing. The ground floor windows in the south wing are four-light oak ovolo mullions. The upper windows in the south wing are 3-light 18th-century flat-faced mullions, while those in the north wing are 3-light oak ovolo mullions that have been altered; three rectangular panes have been inserted to create top lights. The south wing features a doorway with a moulded architrave, and a flat hood supported by carved brackets, above a plank door with a 3-light rectangular fanlight. Two stone chimney stacks are present, one constructed of brick.

Inside, the house features large inglenook fireplaces with stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops in both ground floor rooms flanking the central passage. Several oak plank doors are present, and in the ground floor room to the right, there is a fine early 17th-century oak dresser with three tiers of arched plate racks.
