Description
This is a terrace of houses built around 1825. The houses are constructed from limestone ashlar, with some areas rendered and painted, and have triple Roman tile roofs. They are of a narrow, single-depth plan, with rear extensions, some of which have been modernised. The houses are two storeys high, most with a single window, although numbers 40 and 41, and 55 and 56 have two windows each. A continuous cornice and parapet runs along the terrace, stepping down slightly between numbers 44 and 45, 48 and 49, 51 and 52, and 53 and 54. A stack with pots is located on the party wall. Number 40 has plain sashes and a modern porch. Number 41 has six-pane sashes and a plain doorway. Number 42 has six-pane sashes. Numbers 43 and 44 have plain sashes and modern porches. Numbers 45 and 46 have six-pane sashes and solid porches. Numbers 47 and 48 have plain sashes; number 47 has a pent roof to the front and number 48 has a porch. Numbers 49 has plain sashes set in stop-chamfered reveals, and a modern gabled porch. Numbers 50 and 51 have six-pane sashes. Number 52 has plain sashes and a gabled porch. Number 53 has six-pane sashes. Number 54 has plain sashes and a small additional window on the first floor. Numbers 55 and 56 have plain sashes. The rear elevation is not visible.
