Description

7A and 7B on Bristol Road are two attached houses built in the mid-18th century. They feature a lined-out render finish with ashlar copings and a pantile roof, which has brick stacks at the west end and mid-ridge, as well as squared and coursed limestone rubble on the end gable.

Each house is two stories high and has a symmetrical front with a two-window range. The doorways are located to the left, and there is a blocking course to the parapet with a cornice and coped end gables. The shallow-pitched double-span mansard roof adds to the architectural detail. On the ground floor, there is a single window, while the first floor has two windows, all of which are 12-pane sashes set in plain reveals with sills.

No. 7B, on the right, features a round-arched doorway with pilastered sides and an open pediment supported by brackets, along with a four-panel door and a spoked fanlight. In contrast, No. 7A has a 20th-century door with a single rectangular light in a plain recessed architrave.

On the south-east return wall, there are window fragments from Keynsham Abbey incorporated into a rebuilt gable. This includes a blind three-light Perpendicular Gothic window with cusped tracery at the center, a 12th-century chevron-moulded arch to the left, and a 13th-century trefoil-headed light to the right, along with a square single light under the gable.

Historically, these houses were part of a terrace that included three additional houses at the end.
