Description

St Dunstan's Presbytery is a detached house dating to the late 17th century, with alterations and additions from the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries. It is constructed of coursed rubble with gabled pantile roofs and three brick stacks – two at the ends and one central.

The original 17th-century house was built at a right angle to the road, consisting of a single-depth, three-room plan, with a later extension running parallel to the rear.

The two-storey east facade is symmetrical, featuring a central doorway and outer bays rising to gabled half-dormers. It has a three-window range. The ground-floor windows are 12-pane sashes in plain reveals with wooden lintels. The dormer on the left-hand side has a 20th-century cross-mullion casement, while the one on the right-hand side has a 19th-century casement with a fixed top light, both with sills and under wooden lintels. A 20th-century casement window is above the doorway. A gabled pantile porch is supported on wooden posts, and a multi-paned 20th-century door is set within. The south return facade has two steep gables, with an early 19th-century 12-pane sash to the ground-floor right, while the remaining windows are 20th-century casements. A central wing extends back from the ridge of the 17th-century front range and has two ridge stacks.

The interior was not inspected.

This building is one of the few surviving 17th-century houses in Keynsham. Originally, the building was rendered with roughcast and pebble-dash.
