Description

This is a primary school, originally a village school, dating from 1858. A foundation memorial inside confirms the date. It was designed by Davies and Tew of Chesterfield and built in a Gothic style. The building is constructed from coursed, squared rubble with freestone dressings and has a modern tiled roof. The asymmetrical L-shaped elevation features two gabled cross wings facing north. It is a single-story building. Windows are 1-, 2- and 4-light, with some featuring cusped heads. Spherical triangles are set into the gables. A three-stage bell tower with a pyramidal slate roof includes a two-centred arch doorway with a hood mould. A former school house is incorporated into the east elevation.
