Description
At the south-east corner of the Church of St. John the Baptist, there are five chest tombs dating from the 18th century and early 19th century. These tombs are made of Bath stone ashlar and sandstone, with most featuring panelled sides and a moulded cornice. The first tomb has corner balusters and inscribed panels, dated 1789 and attributed to Davis, which includes fluted and decorated corner pilasters. The second tomb, from 1800 and attributed to Fisher, has panels with pilaster strips. The third tomb, dated 1813 and attributed to Cottle, features plain, large panels. The fourth tomb includes large inscribed panels. This group of tombs significantly enhances the setting of the church.
