Description

Pine House is a house dated 1672, built for Richard and Mary Panton, located in Batheaston. The main block, constructed in the 17th century, features coursed rubble and a slate roof with diagonal ashlar stacks. It has two storeys, a basement, and attics under two steep gables that are coped with finials. The façade includes two windows and a projecting two-storey porch with an embattled parapet. The windows are two-light casements with ovolo moulded stone mullions and drip mouths, with three additional windows on the first and attic floors, as well as two keyed oval windows in the apex of the gables. The entrance has a plank studded door with an ovolo/ogee moulded surround and a moulded outer doorcase that features an inscription on the lintel.

To the north, there is an early 18th-century extension, which is partly obscured by No. 40 (Greensleeves). This extension is also built of coursed rubble and has a half-hipped roof made of slate and Cotswold stone slate. It has three storeys and features two glazing bar sash windows in bolection moulded surrounds on the north elevation, along with a modillion cornice and parapet. Inside, the beams are encased in decorative plasterwork from the 18th century, and the first-floor fireplace has a four-centred arch lintel with a moulded surround.
