Description
The Grange is a house dating from the late 17th century, with a datestone of 1667 recorded in a 1952 survey, although this stone is now lost. The building has undergone alterations and additions in the early 18th century and early 19th century. It is constructed of rubble with stone dressings and has pantile roofs. The house is situated on a corner site at the junction of two roads, forming an L-shaped plan with a 17th-century wing facing south and an 18th-century wing to the rear.
The south front has two storeys and features four windows, including an early 19th-century elliptical bay on the right side. Some original two-light ovolo mullions remain, while others have lost their central mullion. Additionally, three openings on the ground floor have been replaced by tall Gothick windows with moulded upswept ogee heads. The fenestration throughout is lozenge-shaped, with blind painted Gothick tracery in the ogee heads. The rear wing has less pronounced two and three ogee-headed lights with small pane glazing. The building is topped with brick stacks set on stone bases.
