Description

No. 2 Long Acre is an early 19th-century warehouse and showroom, altered in 1910. The architect for the alterations was Mowbray A Green. It is constructed of limestone ashlar with an unseen roof. The building has a double-depth plan and a symmetrical ten-window front. The facade features a coped parapet and cornice, with second and third-floor sill bands that are slightly returned. The upper two floors have paired twelve/eight-pane sash windows with swivel pivots to the upper parts and fixed lower parts. The first floor has similar windows with casement tops. The ground floor is articulated by six Tuscan pilasters and an entablature, with six-panel doors and square overlights in the outer bays to the left, and six/six-pane sash windows to the right, featuring banded rustication below the sill bands. The three central bays have a 20th-century shopfront with continuous three-pane overlights. The returns have paired windows, and the rear elevation features large, double, half-glazed loading-bay doors on each floor. The interior has not been inspected. Originally part of Vesey's Coach Factory, the building was converted into Bath Technical Institute in 1910.
