Description
The retaining wall and steps to the terrace with an orangery at the east end, located at the rear of Batheaston House, date from the mid-18th century. The orangery, which now serves as a garden building, is constructed of ashlar and is a single storey. It features four Tuscan half-columns, with glazing bar sashes and a glazed door positioned between them. The structure has a plain entablature and cornice. The orangery is situated at the east end of the terrace, directly in front of the garden elevation of Batheaston House. The retaining wall, made of coursed, squared rubble, supports the paved terrace and includes a cornice and ball finials. There are eight ashlar steps leading up to the terrace.
