Description
No. 197 is a house dating from the late 18th century, constructed of ashlar with a slate roof featuring a coped raised verge and a moulded cornice. The building has two storeys and an attic with a dormer. It includes three windows with glazing bar sashes, and a 16-pane sash window on the ground floor. There is a modern door located to the right, which is set beneath an overlight. The property is accompanied by a rubble boundary wall and rusticated gatepiers. This house was the home of the pioneering geologist William Lonsdale, who is particularly noted for his work in distinguishing the Devonian System.
