Description

Sladebrook House is a detached house that was formerly a farmhouse, built in the early 19th century with some 20th-century additions. It is constructed from limestone ashlar and features a composition slate roof, with some pantile on the extension. The building has a large L-plan layout and a hipped slate roof, with the main elevation facing east. The rear internal angle is filled by a lean-to extension and a low hipped range added later.

The house is two storeys high, with original windows on the east and south fronts that are pointed lights with small-pane casements set in plain surrounds. The main entrance features three windows above three-light windows, with drip courses and a central pair of part-glazed doors in a pointed opening. The front facing the road has two three-light windows on each level and a set-back extension with a panelled door entrance. There is a large central ridge stack and another stack at the rear of the east-facing range. The rear includes a glazed door with sidelights, a further 20th-century door and sidelights in the lean-to extension, and 20th-century glazed doors and paired sash windows in the small hipped range attached.

The interior was partially inspected by Bath Council in 1976, revealing that the ground floor ceilings were covered in polystyrene tiles, with no cornices or mouldings remaining. It features six-panelled doors and plain brochette marble fireplaces. The former farmlands surrounding the house have been partly preserved as public open space, although much of the area is now covered with 20th-century development.
