Description
The Church of the Ascension is a Grade II listed building constructed from limestone ashlar with slate roofs. The main structure includes a nave, north and south aisles, and a south porch, all built in 1907, while the chancel and south aisle were added in 1911.
On the exterior, the west wall faces the street and is framed by stepped buttresses. It features a large three-light window with mullions and has a small bell-cote to the left, along with a gable cross. The porch entrance on the left leads into the north aisle. The aisle windows are three-light, with coupled lights in a clerestory above. The chancel is distinguished by a five-light east window.
Inside, the church has a five-bay nave supported by lozenge-shaped piers, with two orders of arches that die into the piers without capitals. The aisle windows have hood-moulds over their rere-arches. Notable interior features include a moulded stone reredos divided into five compartments, pitch-pine desks, choir seats, and a pulpit.
