Description

26, 27, and 28 Kelston Mills are a row of three cottages originally built for brassworkers, now functioning as two cottages. They were likely constructed around the 1760s for William Champion's brassworks. The cottages are made of coursed rubble and feature pantiled roofs with later brick chimneys. The layout is L-shaped, with No. 28 facing west. The buildings rise to three storeys and have two 2-light casement windows with segmental heads on both the ground and first floors, with voussoirs above the ground floor windows. There are 20th-century doors to the right of Nos. 26 and 27, both also under segmental heads, and No. 26 includes a 20th-century porch. The west-facing rear wing of No. 28 has two windows, including a 20th-century French window and porch at ground level. These houses, along with Nos. 29-34, are notable for being three-storey structures in a rural area and are among the early examples of workers' housing.
