Description

This is an early 18th-century terrace house, altered in the 19th century, located on the north side of Kingsmead Square. Part of the square’s development by John Strahan, the front of the building was partly reconstructed following war damage. It is constructed of limestone ashlar with a slate roof.

The house is three storeys and has an attic, with three windows. The front is characterised by a platband and dropped aprons above the ground floor sash windows, and a moulded cornice with a blocking course and parapet above the second floor. Above the first floor are two twelve-pane sash windows within moulded architraves, each with a keystone. A six-panel door with a radial fanlight is accessed via a shallow bowed shopfront. There is a stack to the left of the door.

The rear elevation has a twelve-pane dormer window above a rubble wall topped with a cavetto cornice and ashlar parapet, with some later extensions.

The interior has not been inspected. The front of the building was carefully restored and was formerly described as painted, with blocked first-floor windows.
