Description
This is an early 18th-century chest tomb located about 8 metres southeast of the chancel of the Church of St. Andrew in Chew Magna. It is made of limestone and features a hipped top with a moulded edge. The tomb has two raised fielded panels on the north and south sides, along with corner pilasters and a central pilaster on both sides. There is a cornice and frieze adorned with central crossed bones on the north and south. The pilasters are finely carved with designs of cherubs, skulls, scrolls, flowers, and a scallop shell. The west panel displays twined ribbons, crossed pick and shovel, crossed bones, rosettes, and swags on the sides. The inscriptions on the tomb have worn away over time.
