Description

These are four terraced houses, numbered 1 to 12, built around 1812, located on the south side of Bathwick Hill in Bath. They are situated on a slope, with the buildings stepping downhill from number 9. The houses were originally listed together as numbers 1 to 12, but that designation has since been updated. These properties are constructed from limestone ashlar with double-pitched slate and concrete roofs. The rear range is higher than the front, and the chimneys are moulded, rising from the coped party walls and the right return. Each house follows a double-depth plan, and number 9 is slightly off-square in its orientation.

The two-storey houses, with basements, each have a two-window front, with a door to the left side. They feature coped parapets, stopped cornices, and ground floor platbands that return to the left. A semicircular arched entrance is set back beneath each house, leading to a six-panel door. Above each door is a six/six pane sash window. The windows on the upper floors to the right of each front are eight/eight pane sashes, some with crown glass. Number 9 has a fanlight that has been painted over, while number 10 has a similar unpainted fanlight. Number 11 has a plain fanlight and a single-pitched roof that slopes from the rear ridge to the front. Number 12 also has a plain fanlight.

The interiors of the houses have not been inspected. These houses are part of the early development of Bathwick Hill, and may have been overseen by John Pinch the Elder. They are smaller in scale than the other terrace houses on George Street.
