Description

These are two houses, numbers 8 and 9 Sydney Buildings, forming the middle and western end of a terrace built at a right angle to the road in the mid-19th century. The buildings have undergone alterations in the 20th century. They are constructed of limestone ashlar with slate roofs.

Number 8 has a symmetrical three-window façade. It features six-pane sash windows, with a smaller square window above the central door. The ground floor is stepped forward beneath a string course and has a 20th-century door with an overlight. Number 9 also has a symmetrical three-window front, with plate glass sash windows flanking a late 19th-century leaded window above a shallow pediment and reeded pilasters to the central door. The right return has a hipped roof over a canted bay, incorporating a shouldered arch to French windows, offering views westwards across the Kennet and Avon canal. The interiors were not inspected during the listing assessment.
