Description
The boundary wall to St James's Cemetery, including a milestone, was built in 1862 by CE Davis. It is constructed from rock-faced squared Pennant stone rubble with ashlar coping and piers. The wall is a dwarf structure punctuated by piers that transition from square to octagonal. Halfway along each panel, there is a lesser pier that projects from the top of the wall. Iron railings that were once present in these panels were removed during World War II. At the west end of the wall, there is a cast iron mile plate fixed to the base, which reads: "1 Mile from the Guildhall BATH." The full name of this cemetery is Lyncombe & Widcombe and St James's Cemetery.
