Description
This is a detached house, dating from around 1810, which has been altered and is now divided into five flats. The front of the house is constructed from limestone ashlar, while the side walls are of coursed rubble, and the roof is covered with Welsh slate. The house has a double-depth plan with two ranges, the front being relatively narrow, and the main entrance is located on the side of the rear range.
The building is two storeys high, with an attic and basement. The ground level falls towards the front (south), making the basement appear significantly higher. The ground floor features tall, paired sash windows, each with four panes, and these are sheltered by a tented cast iron balcony. The first floor has a sill band and two sash windows with four panes each. A cornice runs around the top of the building, above which is a parapet and a mansard roof with two paired, flat-topped dormers. There is an ashlar chimney stack on the right-hand ridge.
The west-facing side elevation has a six-pane sash window on the ground floor and, above it, a much smaller six-pane sash window, replacing an altered opening. The rear wing is built of ashlar and has a hidden roof behind the parapet. A projecting porch provides access, with double doors and windows on the sides. The rear elevation is not visible.
The interior has not been inspected, but is likely to have been altered considerably due to the conversion into flats. Despite these alterations, the house remains interesting as a Late Georgian suburban residence, notable for its crisp limestone facade and Regency decorative ironwork.
