Description
The Cross of Sacrifice is a memorial cross located in Locksbrook Cemetery, designed by Sir Reginald Blomfield and erected around 1922. It is made of Portland Stone and features a bronze sword attached to the front. The tall cross shaft stands on a stepped base and bears the inscription "THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR EVER MORE." This cross was erected by the Imperial War Graves Commission as part of a design that has been used in various locations in Britain and at military cemeteries abroad. To the west of the cross, there are five rows of headstones, totaling over forty, primarily marking deaths from 1919 to 1921. Numerous other Imperial War Graves Commission headstones can be found throughout the cemetery, which is situated near the Royal United Hospital.
