Description

A mid-19th century entrance lodge, designed by Hickes and Isaac, stands as the entry point to Locksbrook Cemetery. The lodge is constructed from rough-faced Pennant Stone ashlar, with Bath Stone dressings, and is topped by a decorative slate roof.

It is a Gothic building of two storeys, with a cruciform plan, featuring projecting gables facing each of the main elevations. An entrance porch is located on the east-facing side. The north and south elevations are similar in design, exhibiting tripartite windows on the ground floor with stone mullions. The first-floor windows are arched and contain two lights, set within stone surrounds with a quatrefoil detail above. A stone band runs at the impost level, decorated with ornamental floral motifs. The windows are fitted with plate-glass casements. A tall stone chimneystack is present, incorporating stars made from red sandstone. A modern extension has been added to the west side of the lodge.
