Description

A row of ten cottages located on Bath Hill in Keynsham, built in the early 19th century and altered in the late 20th century. The cottages have walls of limestone rubble with a rendered finish, pantile roofs, and rendered stacks. Each cottage is two storeys high with a single-window range, stepped uphill and possessing double-depth plans. Originally, the front elevation featured two 12-pane sash windows in plain reveals to the left, and a doorway to the right with pilasters, a bracketed flat hood, and a six-panel door. Numbers 66, 70, and 72 retain their original appearance; the remaining cottages have undergone later alterations, including replacement windows and the removal of the render. The rear facades feature a single window on the first floor, largely with modern fenestration, and ground-floor lean-to outshuts. The interiors have not been inspected. The row represents a good example of a pre-1840 artisan dwelling, known locally as 'Tenhouses'.
