Description

Wellow House is a house dating from the 17th century, which was remodelled in the early 18th century and underwent mid-19th century alterations. The exterior is rendered and lined out to resemble ashlar, topped with a double Roman tiled roof featuring coped raised verges. The roof is set behind an ashlar parapet that ramps up in the centre and at the ends, with a moulded cornice and moulded coping. The house has two storeys and an attic with a single modern dormer, arranged in five bays. The mid-19th century features include large pane sash windows with bolection moulded surrounds, positioned beneath a pulvinated frieze and cornice on the ground floor. The central entrance has a mid-19th century panelled door set in a bolection moulded doorcase, with a solid porch topped with acorn finials. At the front of the house, approximately 30 yards away, there is a boundary wall, gate, and two pairs of gatepiers, dating from the mid-18th and 19th centuries. The outer square piers have cornices and large ball finials, while low rubble walls with cast iron railings connect them, and the inner gatepiers are plain and square.
