Description

The Edgell Monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard about 12 metres northwest of the north porch of the Church of St. Andrew in Chew Magna. It dates from the late 18th century and is made of sandstone featuring limestone balusters. The tomb has a flat top with a moulded edge and a moulded plinth. Inscription panels are present on all sides, each surrounded by an oval incised border, with carved spandrels on the north and south sides. The monument is dedicated to Richard Edgell, who died in 1790, along with other family members.
