Description
The Hill Monument is a chest tomb, enclosure, and headstone located in the churchyard, 5 metres northeast of the tower of the Church of Holy Trinity in Paulton. It dates from the early 19th century and is made of freestone and marble. The chest tomb features a fluted-edged slab on the frieze, fluted end and side pilasters, and a moulded plinth and base. It is set within an enclosure marked by a rounded plinth, which currently lacks railings. At the south side of the enclosure stands a grand headstone with a plinth that has two round-headed tablets inscribed with text, topped by a heavy cornice and scrolls. The earliest legible date on the monument is for Thomas Ames Hill, from 1822.
